This course covers United States History
from Colonial times to 1877. This course is
designed to provide students with the analytic
skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal
critically with the problems and materials in
American History. The program prepares
students for intermediate and advanced college
courses by making demands upon them
equivalent to those made by introductory college
courses. Students should learn to assess historical materials and their relevance to a given interpretive problem, their reliability, and their importance and to weigh the evidence and
interpretation presented in historical scholarship.
Because of the rigorous demands of this
course, students will be expected to devote as
much time as necessary to keep current with class assignments and class work. The class requires extensive out-of-class reading.

prepares students for intermediate and advanced college courses by making demands upon them equivalent to those made by introductory college courses. Students should learn to assess historical materials -their relevance to a given interpretive problem, their reliability, and their
importance - and to weigh the evidence and interpretation
presented in historical scholarship.
Because of the rigorous demands of this course, students will be expected to devote as much time as necessary to keep current with class assignments and class work. The class requires extensive out -of-class reading and writing.
This course is designed to prepare the student to take an advanced placement test and earn up to two semesters of college credit in American History.
This course satisfies the U. S.History course requirements for graduation.
